It’s often said you shouldn’t meet your heroes, but Bowling For Soup is the exception to the rule. Despite their status as pop-punk royalty, the band was incredibly welcoming and professional. Their "lovely" reputation is 100% earned making my first official job an unforgettable experience.

Bowling For Soup: Live & Candid at Kerrang! Radio Studios

The Ultimate Debut: Music Photography at Kerrang! Radio On October 12th 2004, I had the incredible opportunity to document pop-punk icons Bowling For Soup during an intimate live session at the Kerrang! Radio studios. This gallery captures the band's signature humour and energy during their live performance and a high-energy interview with Tim Shaw.

Behind the Lens: From the Studio to Download Festival Capturing a band as legendary as Bowling For Soup requires an eye for authentic storytelling. Beyond the acoustic set, I was able to document the genuine kindness of the band—a rapport that came full circle months later when the guys recognised and greeted me in the VIP area at Download Festival.

The Hot Seat: Tim Shaw & Live Sessions

The energy in a radio studio is electric, especially when Tim Shaw is involved. I was lucky enough to be "in the room" during the interview, capturing the quick-fire wit and chaotic charm that made Tim a household name in UK rock radio.

As the band transitioned into their live acoustic performance, I had to work fast. Shooting in a compact studio environment requires a sharp eye for detail—capturing the glimmer on a guitar string or the shared laughs between Jaret Reddick and the guys. The goal was to document the "human" side of the rockstars, and with Bowling For Soup, that wasn't hard to find.

The Nicest Guys in Rock?

There’s a reason Bowling For Soup has such a loyal fanbase. Between sets, the band couldn't have been lovelier. Despite my nerves as a newcomer, their genuine warmth and professionalism made the shoot a breeze. It wasn't just a job; it felt like being part of the inner circle for an afternoon.
